In a significant move to strengthen international media collaboration, Uganda’s Next Media hosted Sevan Ibrahim, head of content distribution for Africa at Germany’s international broadcaster, Deutsche Welle (DW), at the Next Media Park in Kampala.
The visit signaled a renewed commitment to deepening the existing partnership between the two media powerhouses.
During her tour of the state-of-the-art media hub, Ms Ibrahim praised Next Media’s innovation-driven environment, calling it “a beautiful concept that goes beyond infrastructure.”
The visit served as a strategic moment to reflect on shared achievements and map out future goals.
Next Media Group CEO, Kin Kariisa, expressed his appreciation for DW’s continued collaboration and revealed plans to broaden the scope of their programming partnership.
As part of this expansion, the AfroMobile platform—Next Media’s flagship digital distribution app—will begin to host a broader array of DW content.
This includes investigative stories, European current affairs, and a diverse range of podcasts aimed at offering Ugandan and African audiences fresh global perspectives.
“Our partnership with DW has always been about delivering quality, relevant content,” Kariisa said. “We are now taking it a step further by increasing both the frequency and range of what our audiences can access through AfroMobile.”
In addition to content expansion, the two entities are exploring opportunities for training exchange programs, particularly targeting young journalists, content creators, and digital influencers. This aligns with both organizations’ commitment to youth empowerment and their shared digital-first philosophy.
Ben Mwine, Next Media’s Head of Corporate Affairs and Partnerships, noted that the strength of the partnership lies in mutual respect and aligned goals.
“It works because we see eye to eye on where media is going—collaborative, digital, and audience-first,” he said.
The visit concluded with optimism from both parties, signaling a forward-looking vision rooted in innovation, global storytelling, and capacity building.
As DW increases its footprint on AfroMobile, Ugandan audiences can look forward to a richer, more diverse media experience.
This evolving partnership is poised to set new benchmarks in cross-continental media collaboration and storytelling excellence.
