The National Resistance Movement (NRM) party has today begun a series of internal electoral activities, starting with the election of delegates representing non-unionised workers to the NRM District Conference.
According to a briefing by Tanga Odoi, Chairperson of the NRM Electoral Commission, the elections are part of broader party preparations ahead of the 2026 general elections.
Non-unionised workers eligible to vote or be elected today must be Ugandan citizens aged 18 or above, appear in the NRM Voters Register, and provide proof of employment such as an appointment letter, workplace ID, PAYE documentation, or NSSF contributions.
Tomorrow, Friday, May 23, 2025, the party will conduct elections for its structures at the District and City levels.
The exercise will involve key stakeholders including Members of Parliament, party flag bearers, historical leaders, district executives, and representatives from special party organs at sub-county, municipal, and city division levels.
The NRM has also set expression of interest fees for various positions, with those seeking the District/City Chairperson seat required to pay Shs 500,000.
Other mainstream positions and league roles range between Shs 50,000 and Shs 100,000.
In addition to the mainstream party structures, elections for the Workers and Entrepreneurs Leagues will be conducted at the same level.
The electoral timetable provides that all voters must report to their designated venues by 10:00 AM, with nominations and campaigns ending at 11:45 AM. Voting is scheduled to begin at noon and conclude by 2:00 PM.
However, the party has announced the postponement of elections in four areas due to logistical and administrative challenges.
Elections in the Bunyoro sub-region, as well as Luweero, Nakasongola, and Nakaseke districts, were suspended due to an official visit by President Yoweri Museveni.
In Arua City, elections were called off following a petition related to Ayivu, while in Amolatar District, the exercise was delayed due to untraceable delegates.
Dr. Odoi urged all eligible participants to follow the guidelines and ensure a peaceful electoral process.
