MITYANA – The Mityana Chief Magistrate’s Court, presided over by Obedi Mugizi, has granted bail to Proscovia Nabbosa Mukisa, the National Unity Platform (NUP) aspirant for the District Woman Member of Parliament seat.

Mukisa was released on a cash bail of Shs200,000, with two sureties each bonded at Shs3 million non-cash.

Her release followed a brief court session today May 22 during which the judge ruled in her favour after the prosecution requested additional time to continue investigations.

According to State Prosecutor Precious Ariyo, the investigations into the case are ongoing.

The matter has been adjourned to June 9, 2025, when Mukisa is expected to return to court for further proceedings.

“We are still gathering more evidence. The investigation is active, and we have requested more time to finalize the case,” said Ariyo during the court session.

Mukisa had earlier been arrested by police on Sunday 18th and she was first presented in court on Monday, May 19, 2025, but the ruling on her bail application was deferred to Wednesday.

The courtroom was filled with supporters and NUP members who expressed relief at her release.

Speaking briefly after securing her temporary freedom, Mukisa thanked her legal team, supporters, and the public for their solidarity.

“I am thankful for the support I have received from the people of Mityana, my legal team, and my party. I remain strong and focused on serving my community,” Mukisa noted.

NUP officials present at the courthouse condemned what they described as the continued harassment of opposition candidates.

“This is part of a broader pattern of intimidation targeting NUP candidates across the country. But we will not be deterred,” said Radio Mukooze,Mukisa's political assistant.

Mukisa’s legal team affirmed their readiness to respond to the charges once the state outlines them fully in the next session.

Her release now allows her to resume campaign activities as she prepares for the next court on June 9, 2025.
