Kazo Prioritises Education, Health in shs25.1bn 2025/26 Budget

Kazo District Council has approved a shs 25.1 billion budget for the Financial Year 2025/2026, with a strong focus on education, health, and administration.

The budget was passed on Tuesday during a council session held at the district headquarters, chaired by Dan Bwamunyoga, the District Speaker.

Presenting the budget, the Secretary for Finance, also the District Councilor representing Kyampangara Sub-county, highlighted the funding sources including locally raised revenue at 4.6%, discretionary government transfers at 16.9%, conditional government transfers at 78.2%, and other government transfers accounting for 0.3%.

The approved allocations place education at the top, receiving 42.4% of the total budget, followed by health (18.7%), and administration (15.6%). Other allocations include production (6.5%), works (5.2%), statutory bodies (2.4%), water (2.2%), and natural resources (1.5%).

Bwamunyoga praised the collaborative spirit that guided the budget process.

“This budget is a product of strong cooperation between the political leadership and the technical team. We are committed to serving the people of Kazo with transparency and unity,” he said.

The District Chairperson, Rev. Samuel Mugisha Katugunda, underscored the district’s developmental strides and reaffirmed commitment to key sectors. “We have made progress in education, health, roads, and agriculture. Our focus now is to tackle corruption and continue the fight against livestock diseases like Foot and Mouth Disease,” he stated.

The Chief Administrative Officer, Hajji Badru Mayanja, appealed for collective support in enhancing local revenue. “Improving our internal revenue is crucial for sustainable development. I urge all stakeholders to support our revenue mobilization efforts,” he said.

Councilors also deliberated on innovative strategies for boosting local revenue generation, aiming to reduce overreliance on central government transfers.

The budget sets a roadmap for service delivery and development across Kazo District, reflecting the council’s vision for a self-reliant and prosperous community.
