Experts Urge Women to Embrace Financial Literacy, Tackle Silent Struggle of Financial Abuse
As a woman, how do you manage your money? How do you make money? How do you create more opportunities for yourself

Financial experts and business leaders have called for greater efforts to equip women with practical financial knowledge, highlighting the need to address the often-overlooked issue of financial abuse and encouraging the use of digital platforms like TikTok to market businesses.

The call was made during the launch of Boss Babe Money, a new book by entrepreneur and author Nulu Naluyombya, which aims to empower women through financial literacy and promote independence.

Speaking at the event, Naluyombya described the book as a “financial wake-up call” for women, stressing the importance of learning how to earn, manage, and invest money wisely.

“As a woman, how do you manage your money? How do you make money? How do you create more opportunities for yourself?” Naluyombya asked, adding that financial abuse continues to silently undermine many women’s autonomy.

“We often talk about physical and emotional abuse, but financial abuse keeps many of us broke without even realizing it,” she warned.

The book also explores the psychology of money, investment options, and the role of digital tools in entrepreneurship. Naluyombya urged women to leverage social media platforms like TikTok to market their products and services.

“With just a phone camera, you can reach thousands of customers,” she said.

The launch, attended by members of the Boss Babe Community and key business leaders, marked a growing movement towards female economic empowerment in Uganda.

Vice Chairperson of the Private Sector Foundation Uganda (PSFU), *Sarah Kagingo, echoed the message, urging women to harness the power of social media and announcing new support programs under World Bank-funded projects.

“These initiatives will increase access to affordable financing and support innovation among women entrepreneurs, especially those running small and medium enterprises, including those in the informal sector,” Kagingo said.

She emphasized the need for women to formalize and scale their businesses with the support of emerging digital tools and financial training.

Also, present was Julie Kariisa, President of the Rotary Club of Kibuli, and Prof. Waswa Balunywa*, who encouraged women to document their experiences, including personal stories, as a foundation for impactful content and research.

Naluyombya, who is also the founder of the Boss Babe Community, launched her fourth book About the Money, following the success of her earlier publications focused on personal growth and entrepreneurship.

The event brought together financial experts, entrepreneurs, and women leaders in a shared call to prioritize financial education as a cornerstone for gender equality and long-term economic resilience.
