Buganda Kingdom Premier (Katikkiro) Charles Peter Mayiga has laughed off critics of Buganda and its development initiatives, reaffirming that “Buganda is awake and moving forward.”
Speaking during the Luwalo a community contribution initiative that has all the Buganda Kingdom counties participate every year, the Katikkiro encouraged Kabaka’s subjects not to be swayed by naysayers who wish to derail the kingdom’s progress.
“There are those who are bitter and jealous about Buganda’s development plans like Mwanyi Terimba (the coffee campaign), but they will not succeed in pulling us down,” Mayiga said.
He lashed out at those who mock Buganda and its programs that they cannot stop these programs and cannot detract the kingdom and its subjects because Buganda is grounded and determined.

The Kabaka's subjects from Buddu responded with enthusiasm, joining in to sing along that energized the Luwalo event.
The Katikkiro urged everyone to start something productive, using funds like the Parish Development Model (PDM) wisely to improve their businesses. He also emphasized that livestock farming should not be left to outsiders, as many Ugandans have risen out of poverty through agriculture.
“Each person should take the initiative. Use PDM money to grow your ventures. We must take farming seriously those who succeed are not different from us.”
The third Deputy Pokino (county leader) Muwanga Dick confirmed that Buddu remains committed to growing coffee and that the people view it as their shield against poverty.
Buddu raised shs25 million from the four sub-counties; Mutuba 7 Lwengo, Mutuba II Bigasa, Mutuba 23 Kyazanga, and Mutuba 13 Kisekka.
The Katikkiro noted that based on this momentum, they expect to raise over shs2 billion this year, surpassing last year’s shs1.6 billion.
Buddu County is one of the most active areas in Buganda when it comes to coffee farming and grassroots mobilization. The Katikkiro expressed pride in his 12-year campaign to rally the kingdom toward socioeconomic revival.
