The Electoral Commission of Uganda has commenced the display exercise of the National Voters Register in Nabukalu village, a crucial step in preparation for the 2025-2026 General Elections. The exercise, mandated by Section 26 of the Electoral Commission Act (Cap 176), will run from April 25th to May 15th, 2025.
Citizens, including newly enfranchised individuals and long-standing participants in the electoral system, gathered at designated polling stations, such as the one at Nabukalu village primary school, to verify their registration details.
The Electoral Commission has appointed the period from April 25th to May 15th, 2025, for the display of the National Voters Register. The display of the Voters Register shall begin at 8:00 am and end at 6:00 pm every day, including weekends, during the display period, at all polling stations throughout Uganda.
Purpose of the Display Exercise
The primary purpose of this exercise is to allow voters to:
- Check the accuracy of their personal information on the Voters Register.
- Confirm that their photographs appear correctly alongside their details.
- Raise objections to any inclusions or removals of voter information.
- Report specific cases for removal, including:
- Deceased individuals
- Those under 18 years of age
- Individuals registered in parishes where they do not reside or originate
- Individuals appearing more than once on the Register
Additionally, any eligible voter who applied for registration but does not find their particulars on the Register can present their case for inclusion.
Post-Display Exercise Procedures
Following the initial display period, lists of individuals recommended for inclusion or deletion from the National Voters Register will be displayed for ten days, from May 16th to May 26th, 2025, at each Parish/Ward Headquarters. This supplementary display aims to allow those wrongly recommended for deletion to object to the Parish/Ward Tribunal.
The Parish/Ward Tribunal, appointed by the Magistrate of the area, will comprise two elders (of 60 years and above), one male and one female, and three other members appointed in consultation with political parties and organizations participating in the elections in the area. The tribunal will make the final decision on recommendations for inclusion, deletion, or correction.
Important Notes for the Public
The Electoral Commission urges the public to note the following:
- This exercise is critical for voter eligibility in the upcoming elections.
- Fresh applications for voter registration or transfers to different voting locations will not be accepted during this display exercise.
- Display officers will be stationed at all polling stations throughout the display period to assist voters.
- The display exercise will be conducted impartially, and officials will allow any interested member of the public, including political party agents, to observe the process.
- All complaints arising from the display exercise shall be addressed to the Returning Officers of the respective Electoral Districts and shall be handled in accordance with Article 61(1)(f) of the Constitution of the Republic of Uganda and Section 15 of the Electoral Commission Act, Cap 176.
