Faridah Nambi and her lawyers are currently tallying votes as part of their evidence while court remains stood over. The session was paused to allow the team to get a calculator and verify untallied votes from 14 polling stations in the Kawempe North by-election.
For those familiar with football in Uganda, the calculator is a very dreaded euphemism as it would only come into the picture whenever the national team, the Uganda Cranes, were struggling for breath.
Unfortunately, Faridah Nambi might not be a football fan and so she will miss the symbolism.
Nambi, who is challenging the victory of MP Elias Nalukoola Luyimbazi, became the opening witness among the 10 selected by the court for cross-examination.
Josephine Namakumbi reports that her testimony was immediately interrupted after the court stood over the session briefly to fetch a calculator to help tally figures relating to untallied votes.
The judge asked for the calculator after questions arose over discrepancies in vote totals from several polling stationsânumbers central to Nambiâs claim that the final result was compromised.
