Two people, including a pregnant woman, have been severely injured after an ambulance overturned in Lopeii Village, Napak District, on Sunday morning.

A pregnant woman and one other person are nursing serious injuries after an ambulance overturned in Lopeii Village, Napak District, on the morning of Sunday, May 11, 2025.

The ambulance, registration number UAY 237Y belonging to Kotido General Hospital, was en route to St Kizito Hospital Matany, transporting the expectant mother, when the driver reportedly lost control and it overturned.

Witnesses describe a chaotic scene before the crash.

“I saw the car swaying on the road and then it overturned,” said John Longoli, a resident of Lopeii. “We ran immediately to help and pulled the victims out of the wreckage.”

Dr Cerino Acar, the district health officer, confirmed the incident and assured that the injured were quickly evacuated and rushed to Matany Hospital for medical attention.
