A new chapter begins for Ofwono Opondo, the long-serving Executive Director of the Uganda Media Centre and official Spokesperson of the Government of Uganda.

Opondo has officially stepped down, a move he confirmed during Thursday night’s broadcast of The Frontline, a political talk show on NBS Television.

“I want to confirm that I resigned from the Uganda Media Centre, and today I handed over office,” he said.

His resignation aligns with the Parliamentary Elections Act of 2005, which requires any public officer intending to contest for Parliament to resign at least 90 days before nomination day under Uganda’s multiparty political system.

The announcement has ignited speculation over Opondo’s next political move. Is he preparing to join the race for Parliament?

Opondo has been a prominent face in government communication and a sharp political analyst for years.

His departure marks the end of an era—and possibly, the beginning of another.
