Fifteen villages in Ibanda-Kyanya Town Council, Kasese District, missed out on today’s Local Council 1 (LC1) elections due to the disappearance of their NRM party registers, sparking frustration among residents and party members.
The disruption is being linked to an NRM registrar, Morris Kithenge Masereka, who is now in police custody.
Authorities say the missing registers, which are essential for guiding voters during the electoral process, were under the registrar’s responsibility.
His failure to account for them led to the suspension of voting in the affected villages.
The registrar was arrested and is currently being held at Kasese Central Police Station as investigations proceed.
Dr. Chrispus Kiyonga, the NRM party chairperson in the district, condemned the incident and assured the public that justice will be served. “The suspect will be taken through due process until the law takes its course,” he said.
He further noted that the party would propose a new date for elections in the affected villages to ensure that no one is left out.
The incident has raised concerns about election preparedness and the integrity of the process, prompting calls for tighter controls and accountability in future electoral activities.
