Speaker of Parliament Anita Among has been elected unopposed as the Chairperson of the Women’s League for Kapopong Village, Kolir Sub-county in Bukedea District.
Among was declared duly elected by the Kapopong Village NRM Returning Officer, Mr. Asaja Augustine, shortly after 1 p.m. this afternoon during the ongoing Local Council One (LC1) and NRM village structures polls.
The Speaker, who faced no challenger for the seat, celebrated the moment as a show of unity and trust from her community.
Confirming the development on her X (formerly Twitter) handle, Among expressed excitement and appreciation for the confidence placed in her by the local NRM supporters.
“I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the NRM members of Kapopong Village for trusting me to lead as the Chairperson of the Women’s League,” she wrote. “I am committed to giving my all to advance our party and ensure it grows in strength and ideology.”
Among pledged to work closely with the village leadership and local community to promote the party’s ideals, strengthen grassroots mobilisation, and champion women’s empowerment in the area.
The NRM village elections, which are taking place across the country, aim to fill 31 positions per village as part of the party’s grassroots reorganisation efforts. These structures are seen as critical for mobilising support ahead of future national elections and ensuring effective implementation of government programs.
Party officials in Bukedea have praised the peaceful conduct of the elections in Kapopong Village, noting that members were allowed to freely select their leaders without interference.
With this unopposed victory, Among cements her influence not only on the national political stage but also within her local community, reflecting her deep political roots in Bukedea.
