President Museveni who is also the NRM national chairman has rallied party members to participate in the forthcoming verification exercise.
The NRM will on Tuesday, May 6 hold a baraza in all villages in the country in a bid to verify its members registered in the party register.
In a statement on Saturday, Museveni,urged party members not to be left out in the forthcoming exercise.
“I am alerting and requesting all the NRM members to go to the village centres in their respective local areas by 10am on Tuesday,” Museveni said.
He said the baraza will also have elections for the party LC1 chairman flag bearers and also elect the village NRM structures
According to Museveni, the two activities – register verification and electing LCI NRM flag- bearers and the NRM structures-should strictly take place between 10am and 2pm.
He said he will personally be in the Rwakitura village while the First Lady, Janet Museveni will be in Ntungamo Ireenga to take part in the verification of their respective NRM, village registers.
“I will, however, not line behind any candidate for election because as chairman of the NRM, I welcome any choice of our members. I cannot and should not, therefore, take sides,” he said.
The development signals the start of the 2026 election cycle for both the ruling NRM party and the entire country, the latter organized by the Electoral Commission.
Internal NRM elections have in the past degenerated into chaos.
NRM recently announced that it has more than 20 million voters in the party register.
