Uganda Human Rights Commission Orders Release of Eddie Mutwe

The order, issued under Article 53(2)(a) of the Constitution of the Republic of Uganda and Rule 31 of the Uganda Human Rights Commission (Procedure) Rules, directs the Chief of Defence Forces and the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs to release Mr. Ssebuufu from their custody.

The Uganda Human Rights Commission (UHRC) has issued a release order to the Chief of Defence Forces, demanding the immediate release of Edward Rogers Ssebuufu, also known as Eddie Mutwe.

According to the order dated May 2, 2025, the UHRC has determined that Mr. Ssebuufu is being unlawfully detained.

The order, issued under Article 53(2)(a) of the Constitution of the Republic of Uganda and Rule 31 of the Uganda Human Rights Commission (Procedure) Rules, directs the Chief of Defence Forces and the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs to release Mr. Ssebuufu from their custody.

The document states that Mr. Ssebuufu has been in custody since April 26, 2025.
