Chief Justice Alfonse Dollo oversaw the official handover of the Deputy Chief Justice office today, with Justice Richard Buteera passing the baton to Justice Dr. Flavian Zeija, emphasising judicial efficiency, independence, and public trust in the judicial transition.

 

Chief Justice Alfonse Owiny-Dollo has stressed the crucial role of judicial independence, efficiency, and public trust as he presided over the official handover ceremony of Uganda’s Deputy Chief Justice at the Supreme Court Conference Hall in Kampala.

Justice Richard Buteera, the outgoing Deputy Chief Justice, transferred office to his successor, Justice Flavian Zeija.

In his address, Chief Justice Dollo commended Buteera for his years of service and leadership, acknowledging his profound impact on the judiciary.

“Justice Buteera has served this country with integrity and a deep respect for the rule of law. His leadership and judicial wisdom will remain a lasting legacy,” Dollo said.

The ceremony, attended by various judicial officers, including Lady Justice Jane Okuo Kajuga, Acting Principal Judge, also featured remarks from Justice Buteera, who expressed his gratitude for his tenure and encouraged his successor to build on the foundation laid.

“I am confident that Justice Zeija will continue to elevate the office and serve with distinction,” Buteera said.

Justice Zeija, previously Principal Judge, committed to upholding the values of justice, independence, and public service.

“We must continue to serve with professionalism and humility,” he said.

The ceremony was coordinated by Acting Chief Registrar Pamela Ocaya and supported by Judiciary Public Relations Officer James Mawanda.
