One Ummah, a UK-based international charity organisation, has distributed Zakah to more than 200 Muslims from Katakwi at the Gaddafi National Mosque in Kampala, responding to a call by Salam Charity to support struggling communities in the region.
Sheikh Arkam Tamusuza underscored the spiritual and social value of Zakah, a central pillar of Islam.
“Zakah bridges the gap between rich and poor, empowering those in need to improve their lives,” he said.
The Teso District Qadhi thanked One Ummah for reaching out and appealed for sustained support, noting the persistent hardship faced by many families.
Representing the Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubajje, Sheikh Murushid Luwemba commended One Ummah for its consistent acts of service across the country and assured the charity of the Mufti’s office's goodwill whenever needed.
Hajji Karim Kaliisa, Managing Director of Salam TV and Salam Charity, applauded One Ummah’s Country Director, Hajjat Shania Kigozi, and her team for successfully delivering Zakah aid directly to beneficiaries in Katakwi despite logistical hurdles.
He expressed hope that this intervention would significantly uplift living conditions in the area.
Sheikh Erias Kigozi added that the Zakah distribution would open the door to further developments, including clean water projects and mosque construction.
Hajjat Shania Kigozi expressed gratitude to the One Ummah team in the UK for entrusting her with implementing charitable programmes and reaffirmed her commitment to delivering impactful services.
She emphasised that the Zakah funds go directly to beneficiaries without intermediaries and are intended to meet urgent needs such as medical bills, school fees, and food support.
In her closing remarks, Hajjat Shania Kigozi encouraged residents of Katakwi to foster unity, compassion, and resilience, assuring them that divine blessings and new opportunities would follow.
She also thanked Hajji Karim Kaliisa for his tireless work in identifying and standing by vulnerable Muslim communities.
This effort reflects the growing role of faith-driven aid in supporting underprivileged communities and is expected to bring lasting relief to Muslim families in Katakwi.
