Road named after ASP Muhammad Kirumira

Councilors in Mpigi Town Council have unanimously resolved to name a road after slain former Buyende District Police Commander Assistant Superintendent of Police Muhammad Kirumira.

The maverick police officer was on the night of September 8 shot dead by unknown assailants near his home in Bulenga, along the Kampala –Mityana road.

On Thursday, the councilors led by the Mpigi mayor Richard Sennoga passed a motion to name the 2.5 kilometre Mpambire- Mpanga road after ASP Muhammad Kirumira to appreciate his contribution to the country and area.

“He did a lot for the country and police force. He was the true definition of a dedicated police officer. Kirumira deserved a heroes’ medal unlike many of those who are awarded,”Sennoga said.

The Mpigi town council also moved a motion to buy a plot of land along the Kampala –Masaka highway to erect a monument in memory of the late maverick police officer.

Nicknamed ‘Mwoyo gwa gwanga’(nationalist), Kirumira was a darling to many right from his spell as the Officer in Charge of Nansana police station, Old Kampala DPC and  also DPC for Buyende for always pointing out the ills in the police force he was serving.

This did not augur well with some of his bosses and it was not long before he was slapped with a number of service offences that among others included discreditable conduct and unnecessary exercise of authority before he was convicted and demoted by the police disciplinary tribunal.

He however in April appealed against the conviction insisting that some of the rogue police officers he had implicated in dirty deals were behind his charges.
