Kisoro Road Accident Claims Two Lives 
Unfortunately, one rider died on the spot, while the other succumbed to injuries upon arrival at the hospital

A road traffic accident occurred on April 23, 2025, at around 9:30 PM in Rukoro village along the Kisoro-Bunagana road. Two motorcyclists lost their lives in the collision involving two Bajaj Boxer motorcycles, registration numbers UET 873J and UES 919S.

The deceased have been identified as Ivan Irankunda, a 32-year-old resident of Gafurizo village, Karambi parish, Nyarubuye sub-county, Kisoro district, and Edward Hafashimana, a boda boda rider from Rukundo town council, Kisoro district.

According to eyewitness accounts and preliminary investigations, both motorcycles were traveling in opposite directions, allegedly at high speeds, and occupying the middle of the road.

The Kigezi police spokesperson confirms the incident, saying that the collision occurred when the two motorcycles collided head-on.

He adds that the scene was visited by Sgt. Mbabazi James and his team, adding they drew a sketch map and rushed the victims to Mutorele Hospital.

“Unfortunately, one rider died on the spot, while the other succumbed to injuries upon arrival at the hospital,” Maate confirms.

Maate adds that the motorcycles have been retrieved and are currently parked at Kisoro Central Police Station (CPS), pending inspection.

“Postmortem examination and investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the accident,” Maate states.

Maate further highlights that the preliminary suspected cause of the accident is over speeding and reckless riding.

He further urged motorcyclists to exercise caution and adhere to traffic regulations to prevent such incidents.
