The deputy president of the National Unity Platform (NUP), Muhammad Muwanga Kivumbi has urged party leader Robert Kyagulanyi to withdraw support from members who have been absent from party meetings and activities.
On Tuesday, the party conducted a training session for its members in the Buganda region ahead of the 2026 elections.
However, several parliamentary representatives from NUP were notably absent.
Among those who did not attend were Abed Bwanika, the MP for Kimanya-Kabonera, Bashir Kaziibwe Mbaziira, the MP for Kawempe South, and Mathias Mpuuga, the MP for Nyendo-Mukungwe.
Additionally, Njeru Municipality MP Jimmy Lwanga and Bukoto South MP Dr. Twaha Kagabo, who have recently shown support for the Patriotic League of Uganda, also missed the event.
In his address, Kivumbi called on the party president Kyagulanyi to issue a 30-day ultimatum to those who skipped the training without providing reasons, demanding they either apologize or risk losing their NUP endorsement ahead of the 2026 general elections.
"I urge you, our president, to consider appointing new candidates for these constituencies so we can begin preparations early. Please give them a month to either apologize or be removed," Kivumbi stated.
He further proposed that similar consequences be applied to members who support President Museveni or his son, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
"Can we endure more years under Museveni? We backed you as our parliamentary candidate; how can you align yourself with Museveni, or even worse, with Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba?" he questioned.
According to the party, the training was intended to address several critical national issues in anticipation of the 2026 general elections.
Nile Post has tried to contact Mpuuga and Bwanika for a comment on their status in regards to NUP but efforts have not been successful.
