Teachers from Kasaana Junior School in Nyendo have extended a heartfelt gesture to vulnerable children and patients at Masaka Regional Referral Hospital, offering essential supplies in a tribute to pupils who died in a tragic dormitory fire last year.

During an outreach drive aimed at giving back to the community, the educators donated items such as diapers, soap, sugar, and other everyday necessities.

The recipients included premature babies, children with chronic illnesses, and those suffering from neurological conditions.

The initiative, led by teachers Hellen Naluyinda and Alex Nuwagaba, alongside school director William Jjuuko, was part of a memorial effort to honour the lives of pupils who perished in an October 2023 dormitory fire.

The inferno claimed the lives of about 10 children and sent shockwaves through the community and education sector.

“We felt it was important to remember our lost pupils not just in prayer, but through acts of love and service that reflect their innocent spirit,” said Nuwagaba.

The teachers also expressed gratitude to parents who have continued to support the school in the aftermath of the tragedy.

“We were deeply touched by the resilience and support from our parents, even after such a tragedy. This is one way of saying thank you,” Naluyinda added.

The outreach coincided with the end of the Lenten season, a period traditionally marked by compassion, reflection, and charity.

Hospital officials commended the gesture, saying the donation would ease the burden on vulnerable families receiving care at the facility.
