We are not going to play NRM's game. We are going to play our own game. What happens in the NRM does not determine what happens in the FDC

The president of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), Patrick Amuriat has stated that the party will not engage in "ring-fencing" positions as it prepares for the 2026 general elections.

Amuriat criticized the National Resistance Movement (NRM), alleging that it is attempting to ring-fence President Museveni's position as its candidate for the upcoming presidential elections, a practice he insisted will not occur within the FDC.

He made these remarks during an appearance on NBS Television's political program, The Frontline, on Thursday.

"We are not going to play NRM's game. We are going to play our own game. What happens in the NRM does not determine what happens in the FDC," Amuriat said.

He added, "For us there's no position that is going to be ring fenced. All positions are competed for including the position of presidential flag-bearer."

Amuriat also mentioned that around five individuals have expressed interest in becoming the FDC's presidential candidate for the 2026 elections.

"We have almost 4-5 people showing interest in the position and we shall subject them to the national delegates conference, vetting process. It is constitutionally established within the party. They will go around persuading the electorates," Amuriat said.

He hinted that he would consider running for the presidency in the upcoming elections if his party endorses him as its candidate.

"If the party tells me to go for the Presidency, I will go for it. One thing is clear, I will be somewhere on the ballot paper come 2026."
