Good Friday is one of the most solemn days on the Christian calendar, commemorating the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ at Calvary.
In Kampala, preceded by the Way of the Cross, joint prayers were organized by the Uganda Joint Christian Council held at Old Kampala SS playground.
The prayers attracted several distinguished religious leaders, government officials, and members of the public, were notably attended by Vice President Jessica Alupo.

Next Media Uganda, Photojournalist Francis Isaano who also participated in the Way of the Cross, used the solemn occasion to reflect on his personal journey and the challenges facing journalists in Uganda.
"As a journalist, I pray that what happened to us in the Kawempe North by-election never happens again. We ask God for a peaceful working environment, that He may speak to those involved so they understand the work we do and allow us to carry it out freely," he shared.

Isano was among over 30 journalists attacked during the Kawempe North by-election on March 12 and 13, 2025. He sustained serious injuries after being beaten by security operatives, leading to hospitalization and an ongoing recovery period.
"I'm a Catholic. Today is a day of reflection—on how the journey has been so far and everything that has happened, including the incidents of 13th March 2025. It's a day to return to God, pray, and seek guidance for the future," Isano added.
The violence during the by-election drew widespread condemnation from media organizations and human rights groups. The Uganda Journalists Association (UJA) reported that journalists from major media houses, including NBS TV, NTV, and Daily Monitor, were targeted, with some arrested and others sustaining injuries. citeturn0search1
Isaano's participation in the Good Friday event underscores the resilience of journalists who, despite facing threats and violence, continue to uphold the principles of truth and accountability.
His call for prayer and reflection serves as a poignant reminder of the need for a society that respects press freedom and the vital role of journalists in a democratic nation.
As Uganda approaches future elections, the experiences of journalists like Isaano highlight the importance of safeguarding media freedoms and ensuring that such incidents of brutality do not recur.
