President Yoweri Museveni met with a delegation from the European Union Mission in Uganda, led by Ambassador Jan Sadek, to discuss regional security concerns, with a particular focus on the escalating situation in South Sudan.

In a statement posted on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, President Museveni noted that the meeting addressed "several issues of the security in the region and South Sudan." He welcomed the EU delegation, emphasizing the importance of continued collaboration between Uganda and the European Union to promote peace and stability in the Great Lakes region.

The discussions come at a critical time, as South Sudan faces renewed tensions threatening its fragile peace process. In early April, African Union mediators arrived in Juba to facilitate talks aimed at preventing a resurgence of civil conflict following the house arrest of First Vice President Riek Machar. President Salva Kiir has accused Machar of inciting rebellion, leading to clashes reminiscent of the devastating 2013-2018 civil war.
