President Yoweri Museveni has revealed that he will meet the Kabaka to discuss the contents of the speech made by Buganda premier Charles Peter Mayiga in regards to Museveni’s indifferent behaviour towards a specific group of people alleged to be eyeing the presidency.

At the height of the Arua chaos- Bobi Wine saga, Mayiga addressed the Buganda Parliament where he said that violence and intimidation by government agencies will not deter the Opposition’s quest for power, the premier called for talks between president Museveni and those seeking power in order to de-escalate tensions.

Mayiga said that Uganda’s problems start and stop with President Museveni, who is so engrossed in retaining power that he treats all potential competitors as outlaws.

“The Opposition want power; those in power such as President Museveni himself, wants to retain, consolidate it. The brutality being practised is to foil attempts for those looking for power quest to stop their plans,” he said.

However, Museveni while addressing a press conference on security yesterday, said that he needs to address the Kabaka regarding his premier’s comments.

“I will look for the Kabaka so that he tells me what that Katikiro of his was saying.”

Museveni also took time off to address Mayiga’s concerns, saying that the presidency is not negotiated for.

“Those who want presidency bring competing programs, manifestos. Presidency is not negotiated for; it is competed for. The people who want to lead are people who presumably have ideas. I hope they don’t want to lead without ideas,” he said.

“If you want to lead, you say, our idea is the following, then you go to the public and look for votes.  Okay we can discuss with the other parties, but the discussion would have to be about how to compete peacefully, it can not be about how to run the country together,” he added.

Museveni further said that the discussion can only be possible when the opposing group comes to the table with a change in ideas to compliment the NRM points of; Patriotism, Pan Africanism, social-economic transformation and democracy.

“The only thing we share with them is democracy which is as well different because theirs is democracy of indiscipline,” Museveni said.
