Over Shs200m Raised for Mbarara Archdiocese Mega Arcade Project

Christians at Rubindi Catholic Parish in Mbarara District have raised more than Shs202 million to support the Mbarara Archdiocese's mega arcade project.

The ambitious initiative, estimated to cost Shs8.53 billion, is a step towards generating sustainable revenue for the Archdiocese.

The fundraising event, led by Archbishop Lambert Bainomugisha, featured a special mass.

"In the presence of God, we gather as one, and that is how we should live—supporting each other beyond differences," the Archbishop said, urging unity among Christians.

The event attracted key dignitaries, including Eng. John Twinomujuni, the Commissioner for Urban Water in the Ministry of Water and Environment.

Representing Minister Henry Musasizi, Twinomujuni commended the Archdiocese's commitment to development and contributed Shs 10 million.

“I am proud to support this worthy cause,” he said.

Thomas Tayebwa, the Deputy Speaker of Parliament and Chairperson of the Archdiocese's Development Foundation (AMDF), also matched the contribution.

He was joined by other donors, including business leaders, financial institutions, and local politicians.

Mbarara District Woman MP, Magrete Ayebare Rwebyambu, reinforced the Archbishop’s call for unity.

“We must prioritize development over tribal, political, or religious differences,” she said. She contributed Shs 7 million in cash and pledged an annual Shs 5 million donation to the project.

Patrick Musinguzi, popularly known as Akokii ka Kashari, praised Archbishop Bainomugisha’s inclusive leadership.

“If the Archbishop were selective in his leadership, many would not have come forward to support this initiative,” Musinguzi remarked.

The funds raised will go towards the construction of the Mbarara Catholic Social Centre arcade, which aims to generate long-term revenue for the Archdiocese.
