Minister Kyofatogabye Warns Deputy RDCs Against Land Grabbing

The Junior Minister for Kampala Metropolitan Affairs, Kabuye Kyofatogabye, has issued a stern warning to Deputy Resident District Commissioners (RDCs) and Resident City Commissioners (RCCs), urging them to avoid involvement in land grabbing while executing their official duties.

Speaking during the closing of a meeting with deputy RDCs, RCCs, and NRM district chairpersons in Kyankwanzi, Kyofatogabye emphasized the negative impact that the participation of government officials in land grabbing has on the government's reputation.

“It is unacceptable for you to engage in land grabbing while serving in your respective capacities,” Kyofatogabye said

The minister noted that such actions not only tarnish the government's efforts to ensure transparency and accountability but also perpetuate injustice and inequality.

The warning comes amid growing concerns about land grabbing in Uganda, which has led to the displacement of many citizens, contributing to widespread poverty.

Kyofatogabye highlighted the necessity for government officials to embody ethical leadership by distancing themselves from corrupt land dealings.

Such actions would help rebuild public trust in the government and support a more just and equitable society.

With the 2026 general elections on the horizon, the minister’s remarks underscore the importance of integrity and responsible governance.

The impact of land grabbing has been severe, particularly in rural areas, with many Ugandans losing their land to powerful individuals and companies.

This has exacerbated poverty, environmental degradation, and injustice.

To address the issue, the government must strengthen land laws, ensure greater transparency in land transactions, and offer support to communities affected by land grabbing.
