Residents of Kakajjo Zone in Kisenyi have launched a major cleanup exercise, clearing trenches that have long posed health risks to the community.
The effort comes as part of preparations for the 70th anniversary celebrations of Kabaka Ronald Mutebi’s birthday celebrations, set for next month.
The initiative, which brought together community members and local leaders, focused on improving sanitation in the area, particularly near food vendors who rely on clean surroundings for their businesses.
Residents had long endured the stench and health hazards from the clogged trenches, but with the upcoming celebrations, many saw an opportunity to restore cleanliness and order.
Local leaders urged the community to sustain these efforts beyond the celebrations, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a hygienic environment.
The cleanup has not only transformed the area but also strengthened community bonds, as residents work together to honour the Kabaka’s reign.
Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II was born on April 13, 1955, to Kabaka Edward Muteesa II and Sarah Nalule Kisosonkole.
He ascended to the throne as the 36th Kabaka of Buganda on July 31, 1993, following the restoration of the Buganda Kingdom after decades of political turmoil.
His coronation at Naggalabi, Buddo, marked a historic moment for the kingdom, re-establishing the cultural leadership that had been abolished in 1966.
Since then, Kabaka Mutebi has played a central role in promoting Buganda’s heritage, unity, and development.
