Buganda Kingdom has signed a five-year partnership with the Community Integrated Development Initiative (CIDI) to enhance community livelihoods through clean water access, environmental conservation, youth vocational training, modern farming education, and public health promotion.
While launching the agreement, Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga emphasized the role of food security in poverty eradication, noting that communities cannot focus on development without access to adequate food.
He stressed the need to prioritize food availability before addressing other aspects of development.
On youth empowerment, Mayiga cautioned that without productive engagement, young people risk being trapped in poverty.
He called for early intervention to equip them with skills that contribute to both personal growth and Buganda’s development.
Addressing public health concerns, the Katikkiro highlighted that 70% of diseases in Africa stem from poor hygiene.
He urged for increased awareness of hygiene practices to prevent illnesses that hinder economic progress.
Additionally, he encouraged afforestation efforts and warned against reckless forest burning.
Buganda’s Minister for Environment, Natural Resources, and Community Development, Oweek Hajjat Mariam Nkalubo Mayanja, emphasized the partnership’s significance in improving health, education, youth empowerment, and agriculture.
She noted that the collaboration would enhance stakeholder efforts in delivering impactful solutions.
Dr. Jjuuko Fulgensio, CIDI’s Executive Director, expressed confidence that working with Buganda Kingdom would ensure aid reaches those who need it most, creating a meaningful impact on their lives.
The agreement was signed by Hajjat Mariam Nkalubo Mayanja on behalf of Buganda Kingdom, while Dr. Jjuuko Fulgensio represented CIDI.
