French Ambassador Lauds Media’s Role in Strengthening Francophone Ties

French Ambassador to Uganda, Xavier Sticker, has underscored the vital role of media in bridging cultural and linguistic divides.

Speaking at the Francophonie Day celebrations held at the French Residence in Kampala, Ambassador Sticker emphasized the media’s contribution to fostering dialogue and strengthening cooperation between Francophone nations and their partners.

"The media plays a crucial role in fostering dialogue and understanding among nations, and we appreciate Uganda’s commitment to its partnerships within the Francophonie community," he said.

The event was attended by key members of the Uganda Parliamentary Press Association (UPPA), including President Samuel Ibanda Mugabi, Secretary General Arthur Wandero, and Print Media Representative Sarah Nabakooza.

The UPPA delegation was invited by Ambassador Sticker in recognition of the media's role in enhancing international relations.

Although Uganda is primarily an English-speaking country, it maintains strong ties with the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie (OIF), a global body of over 80 member states, including several African nations.

UPPA leadership reaffirmed its commitment to advancing parliamentary journalism and fostering collaborations that elevate the profession both locally and internationally.

Francophonie Day is celebrated annually worldwide to promote the French language and Francophone culture, reinforcing global partnerships through education, media, and diplomacy.
