Muslim leaders from across Uganda have pledged total loyalty to Mufti Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje and his Deputy, Sheikh Muhammad Ali Waiswa, following their election by the Majlis Al-Ulama and endorsement by the Joint Session of the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC).
In a gathering held at the UMSC headquarters in Kampala, District Kadhis and Regional Assistants to the Mufti expressed gratitude for the decision, emphasising their commitment to unity and development within the Muslim community.
Addressing the gathering, Mubaje acknowledged the leaders’ support and urged them to remain steadfast in promoting cohesion.
“I appreciate all we have achieved together,” he said, highlighting the importance of collective efforts in strengthening the faith and administration.
He praised his long-time association with Sheikh Waiswa, describing him as a dedicated leader.
“Sheikh Waiswa was one of my teachers in A-Level. Despite our roles, he has always been loyal and supportive in executing assignments,” Mubaje noted.
The Mufti outlined key UMSC projects, including the near-completion of a 29-unit apartment complex in Kampala and plans for classroom blocks at Insan International University.
Additionally, he announced the development of a shopping mall on UMSC’s recovered land along the Kampala-Gayaza Highway.
Over the next five years, efforts will focus on establishing regional administration headquarters in Uganda’s ten Muslim regions.
He also revealed plans for a nationwide tour by the UMSC National Management Team, aimed at mobilizing resources and addressing community challenges.
“The population will be encouraged to contribute to fundraising efforts, and all pressing issues in the districts will be tackled on-site,” he said.
Sheikh Waiswa assured the congregation that the leadership was not power-hungry.
“We have never been desperate for power. This transition was well-planned, and when the right time comes, we shall hand over,” he stated.
Muluubya Ssekyanzi reaffirmed that the Mufti and his Deputy were elected based on their exceptional performance locally and internationally.
Other key figures, including Haji Muhammad Ali Aluma and Sheikh Imran Ssali, echoed similar sentiments.
