State Minister for Fisheries Hellen Adoa has applauded President Museveni for his efforts in empowering women across the country.

Speaking as the chief guest at the belated Soroti Women’s Day celebrations in Ocokican Sub-county, Soroti District, Adoa highlighted the President’s role in elevating women to key leadership positions.

The event, organised by Soroti District Woman MP Anna Adeke in collaboration with district authorities, was attended by State Minister for Disaster Preparedness Lilian Aber, Soroti City Woman MP Joan Alobo, local leaders, and community members.

Adoa emphasized the significant strides made in women’s empowerment under President Museveni’s leadership, noting that women now occupy top positions in government and other sectors.

“Through His Excellency President Museveni, women are now in full command in this country. Who would have thought that Lilian Aber, once living in a camp, would become a minister? Or that someone who endured hardship as a child could rise to such a position?” Adoa said.

She cited Vice President Jessica Alupo and Speaker of Parliament Anita Among as examples of women who have risen to prominence under Museveni’s administration, particularly from the Teso sub-region.

However, Adoa urged women to remain humble despite their empowerment, cautioning against disrespecting men in their lives.

“Even when we are given power, as women, we must remain humble. Respect your husband, father, brother, and every man around you. Let us appreciate the different roles God has assigned to men and women,” she said.

She also acknowledged government initiatives aimed at gender equality and economic empowerment, such as Emyooga and the Parish Development Model (PDM).

However, she warned against mismanaging these programs, urging beneficiaries to utilize the funds effectively to improve their livelihoods.

Minister Aber called on leaders in Teso to work together for the benefit of the community. She commended MP Adeke for fostering unity, stressing that collaboration among leaders is vital for the region’s progress.

Adeke reaffirmed her commitment to empowering women at all levels. She encouraged them to work hard, strengthen their families, and take advantage of government programs to uplift their economic status.

The celebrations featured cultural performances and speeches, highlighting the progress women in Soroti have made and the need for continued collaboration to address community challenges.
