President Museveni has pledged to allocate funds to savings and credit cooperative organisations (Saccos) formed by graduates from the skilling industrial hubs established across Uganda.
The President made the commitment while commissioning the Bunyoro Zonal Industrial Hub in Masindi District on Thursday evening.
In response to the high rate of school dropouts, Museveni initiated the establishment of skilling centres in all regions of the country to equip youth with practical, marketable skills. The Bunyoro Zonal Industrial Hub is one such facility that has already trained and graduated several youth.
During the event, Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja informed the President that many of these graduates struggle to start their own businesses due to a lack of capital.
In response, Museveni pledged Shs 10 million to each graduate and assured them of additional financial support through their Saccos.
He further directed that more practical courses be introduced in the industrial skilling hubs to enhance employability and entrepreneurship opportunities for the youth.
During the function, Nabbanja also urged Museveni to consider running for re-election in 2026. The President acknowledged her request but did not elaborate on his response.
The event was attended by First Lady Janet Museveni, who also serves as the Minister for Education.
