Speaking during the flag-off, Nakasiita said the donation had been facilitated by the Qatar Red Crescent.

“This is a generous donation by our partner, the Qatar Red Crescent Society through the Uganda Red Cross Society to the vulnerable communities of Kiryandongo refugee settlement. We are targeting vulnerable Muslims who are fasting and not able to sustain themselves through this holy month of Ramathan,” Nakasiita said.

She said during such periods of fasting, they partner with different organisations to donate to the Muslim communities.

There has been an influx of Sudanese refugees in Uganda following a devastating war in Sudan that has displaced close to three million people.

Among the thousands of fleeing Sudanese nationals now seeking refuge at the Kiryandongo Refugee Settlement, the majority are children and women.

Speaking on Thursday, Mufti Mubaje hailed Uganda Red Cross Society for the donation.

“We are grateful to the Uganda Red Cross Society and thank them for their collaboration with the Red Crescent. It is good there is a cross and a crescent working together and during this holy month of Ramathan. This consignment has come at a time when our brothers and sisters are fasting and are in dire need of food to use for breaking their fast,” Mubaje said.

He called upon Uganda Red Cross Society to never get tired of donating to the vulnerable communities like the refugees, noting that God will reward them abundantly.
