Nalukoola’s Victory in Kawempe North a Win Against Oppression - Bobi

The leader of the National Unity Platform (NUP), Robert Kyagulanyi, alias Bobi Wine, has hailed Elias Nalukoola’s victory in the Kawempe North by-election, calling it a demonstration of people’s power against state oppression.
Kyagulanyi congratulated Nalukoola on his hard-fought win, describing it as a testament to the resilience of Ugandans who continue to stand against electoral manipulation.
“The people have spoken, and their will has prevailed over guns! Your hard-fought victory is a testament to the resilience and power of the people when they stand firm for what is right,” Kyagulanyi said.
He reiterated his belief that it is possible to defeat President Museveni’s government through elections, despite persistent allegations of vote rigging and intimidation.
“As we have always said, it is very possible to overwhelm the dictator in an election, no matter what stops he pulls to rig it,” he added in a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter),
Kyagulanyi dedicated the victory to all Ugandans demanding change, urging them to stay committed to their struggle for a better country.
“This win is not just yours it belongs to all those who refuse to be silenced; the millions who keep believing in the possibility of a new, better, and brighter Uganda! The struggle continues.”
Nalukoola was declared the winner of the Kawempe North MP by-election on Thursday after defeating nine other contenders.
According to the Electoral Commission, the city lawyer garnered 17,764 votes, while his closest competitor, Faridah Nambi of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), secured 8,593 votes.
The by-election, held on March 13, took place amid heavy security deployment and the arrest of journalists, opposition MPs, and their supporters.
