The retreat, attended by finance officers from various battalions, brigades, divisions, specialized units, and strategic formations, aims to strengthen financial management practices across the force.
“As custodians of UPDF funds, we must perfect our work and uphold discipline and integrity because we are handling a sensitive department. This is the only way we can produce good results that will grow the institution,” Brig. Gen. Mugabe stated.
He reaffirmed the Chief of Defence Forces, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s directive of zero tolerance for corruption within the UPDF and pledged to strictly enforce this policy within the finance department.
He also emphasized the importance of planning, budgeting, and accountability in ensuring financial efficiency.
Brigadier General Julius Biryabarema, the Director of Pensions and Gratuity, also addressed the retreat, stressing the need for financial discipline and a strong saving culture in preparation for retirement.
“Retirement is real and will come to each one of us. Do not misuse your salary. Save and invest now, and it will sustain you in retirement,” Brig. Gen. Biryabarema advised.
The retreat serves as a platform to reinforce financial transparency and service delivery within the UPDF, strengthening the institution’s commitment to sound financial management.
