OWC Officials Tour UIRI to Strengthen Industrial Development Ties

A delegation from Operation Wealth Creation (OWC), led by Acting Deputy Chief Coordinator Brigadier General Godfrey Muwanguzi, has visited the Uganda Industrial Research Institute (UIRI) to enhance inter-agency collaboration in industrial development.
During the familiarization tour, Brig. Gen. Muwanguzi and his team explored UIRI’s workshops, laboratory facilities, and ongoing projects.
He commended the institute’s leadership and staff for their contributions to Uganda’s industrial growth, describing the visit as a “significant milestone” in fostering cooperation between OWC and UIRI.
The tour comes ahead of an inter-agency exhibition where UIRI is expected to play a key role.
Prof. Charles Kwesiga, UIRI’s Executive Director, highlighted the institute’s support for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) through incubation programs.
He cited Bamboo Tena, a furniture production company, as one of the beneficiaries of UIRI’s technical and business mentorship.
“Our institute plays a crucial role in local content development, capacity-building, and specialized training. We provide advanced machining expertise, material testing services, and technological innovation, particularly in the manufacturing and oil and gas sectors,” Prof. Kwesiga noted.
Established by an Act of Parliament in 2002, UIRI operates as a government parastatal focused on technological innovation and the commercialization of applied research to boost Uganda’s industrial sector.
The OWC delegation included Directors, Executive Assistants, Liaison Officers, and Regional Coordinators from Kampala. Their visit underscores a continued commitment to fostering synergies that drive industrial growth and economic transformation in Uganda.
