National Unity Platform (NUP) candidate Elias Luyimbazi Nalukoola has raised concerns over alleged electoral malpractices in the ongoing Kawempe North by-election.
Speaking to the media shortly after casting his vote, Nalukoola urged voters not to be intimidated by the heavy presence of armed personnel and numberless motor vehicles in the area.

"We appreciate the support and the information we have received. Several people have reported wrongdoings, and we are actively investigating," Nalukoola stated.
He alleged that vote-buying was taking place in the constituency.
However, he emphasized that these were still allegations under investigation.
"If it is true that such activities are happening, be prepared. We are coming to talk with you in a simple manner and advise you to stop because such actions go against democratic principles," he warned.
Nalukoola also called on voters to exercise their democratic rights by turning up in large numbers and urged his political rivals to respect the will of the people.
"It is God who determines leaders, and once a decision has been made, it should be implemented by the people. Let the will of the people reign," he said.
The Kawempe North by-election has been highly contested, with reports of heightened security and allegations of electoral irregularities surfacing throughout the day.
The Electoral Commission has yet to comment on the allegations raised by Luyimbazi.
The seat fell vacant following the death of MP Muhammad Ssegirinya on January 9.
Ssegirinya, who won the constituency for NUP in the 2021 general election, had turned it into a stronghold for the opposition party.
Meanwhile, voting in some polling stations started late due to delays in the delivery of election materials.
