Mufti Mubaje denied access to incarcerated Boda Boda’s Kitatta

Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, the Mufti of Uganda has been denied access to Boda boda 2010 patron Abdallah Kitatta who is incarcerated at the Makindye military police barracks.

Kitatta was arrested in January before being charged together with his group members with charges related to unlawful possession of guns and military hardware by the General Court Martial.

On Wednesday, Mubaje decided to visit Kitatta but was denied access to the military police facility despite having permission from the army court chairman Lt.Gen.Andrew Gutti.

“It is regrettable that an instruction of the GCM Chairman Lt. Gen. Gutti was disobeyed by officials at the Military Police Headquarters,”Mubaje told journalists.

“As the head of the GCM, he has powers like any other court judge to make a ruling which is binding. Just as he ruled that Kitatta should be detained at Makindye, he has the same power to decide who sees him. It is therefore unfortunate that we have been denied access”

Mubaje said that despite having a written document from the army court allowing him to access the boda boda 2010 patron, he was sent away at the military police facility.

He however said he would continue with his planned visits to other prisons including Luzira, Kigo and Kirinya together with other Muslim leaders to pray for inmates.

The development comes only days after Mubaje accused government of unfairly detaining Muslims including Kitatta before demanding for their equal treatment.

He said Kitatta has been denied bail by the army court while people with similar cases have been released.
