“Some of us lose opportunities because we are from the West. I would have loved to be a Vice President of this country or even a Speaker,” Baryomunsi stated.
His remarks come at a time when discussions on regional balance in leadership have gained traction, with some sections of the public arguing that western Uganda has dominated key government positions for decades.
Baryomunsi, however, suggested that this dominance is not absolute, emphasizing that some leaders from the region also face exclusion from top positions based on their origin.
His statement has since sparked mixed reactions, with some questioning the extent of marginalization he claims to face, while others argue that appointments should be based on merit rather than regional affiliations.
The debate on inclusivity in Uganda’s leadership structures continues to be a contentious issue, with various stakeholders pushing for equitable representation across all regions.
