The father to slain former Buyende District Police Commander (DPC) Muhammad Kirumira, has apologised for the mourners’ rowdy behaviour towards two government officials during the burial of his son.
During the burial of Kirumira, Mpambire, Mpigi district, mourners heckled, chased and pelted stones at Internal Affairs Minister Gen Jeje Odongo and Police Spokesperson Emilian Kayima, causing them to sprint from the area unceremoniously.
However, Abubaker Kawooya (Kirumira’s father) says that the mourners passed their anger to the wrong people.
“I apologise to the ministers and all those affected. The police officers, soldiers should not be shown violence because of Kirumira’s death. There is no police officer who could have killed Kirumira. They loved him the same way.”
“The people who turned rowdy were our visitors who got so angry and decided to settle this in their own way. I am sure their love for Kirumira overwhelmed them and forced them into such rowdy actions. I apologise ,” he said.
According to Kawooya, the police had organised a proper send off for Kirumira being a senior officer in the force, but it never came to pass as the officers that had been assigned the duty were dismissed from their presence.
