Ukraine says it is ready to accept a US proposal for an initial 30-day ceasefire on the land, sea and sky with Russia, following talks in Saudi Arabia.

Washington will also immediately restore intelligence sharing and "security assistance" to Ukraine, according to a joint statement.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio says "the ball is in the [Russians'] court", and he will take the offer to Moscow.

US President Donald Trump says he is open to inviting Zelensky back to the White House, following the pair's fiery last meeting.

UK PM Keir Starmer said he "warmly welcomes" the news coming out of Saudi Arabia this evening.

"This is an important moment for peace in Ukraine and we now all need to redouble our efforts to get to a lasting and secure peace as soon as possible," Starmer said in a statement.

He repeated a phrase used by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio: "The ball is now in the Russian court".

He added: "Russia must now agree to a ceasefire and an end to the fighting too."

"We are ready to help bring an end to this war in a just and permanent way that allows Ukraine to enjoy its freedom," Starmer said - announcing that he'll convene leaders this weekend to discuss "next steps".
