We Did Not Endorse Any Candidate Through Kiiza - Rwenzururu Kingdom

The kingdom issued a statement distancing itself from remarks attributed to former Leader of the Opposition Winnie Kiiza, who allegedly claimed she was sent by the Omusinga to support NUP candidate in the Kawempe North by-election.
The Obusinga Bwa Rwenzururu has denied claims that Omusinga Charles Wesley Mumbere endorsed a candidate in the ongoing parliamentary elections, warning against the misuse of his name for political gain.
The kingdom issued a statement distancing itself from remarks attributed to former Leader of the Opposition Winnie Kiiza, who allegedly claimed she was sent by the Omusinga to support the National Unity Platform (NUP) candidate in the Kawempe North by-election.
The Rwenzuru kingdom clarified that the Omusinga remains non-partisan and has not authorised any individual to speak on his behalf in political matters.
The kingdom further disclosed that the Omusinga has not had any engagement with Ms Kiiza in the past three years, making her assertions "entirely baseless and misleading."
Ms Kiiza and her Alliance for National Transformation party and the People's Front for Freedom have been on the trails canvasing votes for NUP's Elias Nalukoola in the Kawempe North by-election.
"The Obusinga Bwa Rwenzururu is a unifying cultural institution whose mission transcends politics," the statement reads, stressing that it is unacceptable for any politician or political group to exploit the Omusinga’s name for electoral purposes.
As Uganda heads into a crucial election period, political figures continue to seek endorsements from influential leaders.
However, the Rwenzururu Kingdom has warned against dragging cultural institutions into partisan affairs. The statement further cautioned that continued misrepresentation would attract legal consequences.
