NRM’s Tiperu petitions court to nullify Arua Municipality by-election results

National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidate in the recently concluded Arua Municipality elections, Nusura Tiperu has petitioned the High Court in Arua seeking a nullification of results for the polls.

Tiperu lost the race to former Terego County MP Kassiano Ezati Wadri who was declared the winner with 6,421 votes against her 4,798 votes.

Through her lawyers; Birungi, Barata and Associates, Tiperu alleges that the elections were marred with irregularities like; violence, intimidation, multiple registrations, voter bribery and denial of equal opportunity during the campaigns.

The NRM candidate insists to court that the different irregularities violated the parliamentary elections ACT and substantially affected results in the August 15 polls.

Two days before the polls, there was chaos involving supporters of Wadri and NRM which allegedly led to the stoning of Museveni’s convoy and death of Kyadondo east legislator Bobi Wine’s driver Yasiin Kawuma.

Following the chaos, members of parliament were arrested, including Wadri who did not get an opportunity to cast his vote.

While commenting about the Arua byelections, president Museveni said that the group led by Bobi Wine and Kassiano through manifesting violence, scared away potential NRM voters.
