Hoima Woman MP Calls for Gender Equality on International Women's Day

Hoima District Woman MP Harriet Businge Mugenyi has called for accelerated action toward achieving gender equality, highlighting the importance of empowering women and girls in the community.
Ms Businge's remarks were made during the celebration of International Women’s Day in Kyankwanzi District, where she joined the global community in recognizing the day.
Addressing the media in Hoima, Businge expressed her commitment to gender equality, stating, "As we celebrated International Women's Day."
"I, Harriet Businge Mugenyi Akiiki, Woman MP of Hoima District, join the global community in calling for accelerated action towards achieving gender equality."
She further emphasized how this year’s theme, "Accelerate Action," resonated deeply with her personal dedication to improving opportunities for women and girls in her community.
"This year’s theme resonates deeply with my commitment to empowering women and girls in our community," Businge noted.
Businge, who has long advocated for women's progress in education, employment, and leadership, stressed the critical role women play in shaping society.
"That’s why I have dedicated myself to promoting women’s progress, particularly in education," she said, adding that she has worked tirelessly to ensure every girl has access to quality education, unlocking their potential and empowering them to succeed.
Beyond education, Businge underscored her support for women's economic empowerment. "I support women’s economic empowerment by providing resources and opportunities for women to start and grow their businesses, fostering financial independence and stability," she explained.
She also stressed the importance of encouraging and supporting women to take on leadership roles, amplifying their voices in decision-making processes.
Reaffirming her commitment to championing the women’s agenda, Businge called on all stakeholders to join her in breaking down barriers to women’s progress.
