Development Partners Urge Govt to Invest in Innovative Climate,Gender Solutions

Development partners in the West Nile region have called on the government to collaborate with non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to invest in innovative solutions addressing climate change and gender-related challenges.
They argue that leveraging technology can significantly enhance Uganda’s ability to tackle these pressing issues.
Mercy Inzikuru, Programs Manager at the Rural Initiative for Community Empowerment (RICE) West Nile, underscored the importance of digital platforms in improving access to services and critical information.
“Digital platforms now make it easier for communities to access services through information sharing. This is key in strengthening both climate resilience and gender equality,” Inzikuru said.
The partners highlighted innovations such as modern irrigation systems, websites, and mobile applications as crucial tools for addressing climate challenges.
They urged the government to invest in these technologies to support communities, especially in rural areas.
Godfrey Dricile, Executive Director of Community Empowerment for Transformation Action (CEFTRA), emphasized that collaboration between the government and development partners would yield lasting impact.
“When the government and development partners work together, the impact is greater. We can combine resources and expertise to create long-term solutions for climate change and gender equality,” Dricile noted.
Jackie Bless, Project Officer at the Strategic Initiative for Women in the Horn of Africa, added that NGO interventions are meant to complement, not replace, government programs.
“Our role is to supplement government efforts. By working together, we can ensure that communities receive the necessary support to overcome both climate and gender challenges,” she said.
The development partners are now advocating for innovative, tailored solutions to promote gender equality and build climate resilience in the region.
They urge the government to embrace technological advancements and partnerships to create a sustainable future for all Ugandans.
