Speakers Among, Zambian Counterpart Unite for Peace in DRC

In a significant display of African solidarity, Speaker of Parliament Anita Among has praised her Zambian counterpart, Nelly Butete Mutti, for her tireless efforts in promoting peace in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The two leaders met on Monday at Parliament to discuss the ongoing conflict in the DRC and the role of African nations in finding solutions to the challenges affecting the continent.
"It's high time for Africans to find solutions to the challenges affecting the black continent," said Speaker Among, emphasizing the need for African-led initiatives to address the region's problems.
Speaker Mutti, who is also the President of the Parliamentary Forum on the Great Lakes region, has been at the forefront of efforts to find a permanent solution to the conflict in the DRC.
Speaker Among commended her counterpart's efforts, saying, "Africa must address their challenges, and we must support each other in finding solutions."
The meeting between the two speakers also touched on the issue of African representation at the African Union. Speaker Among advocated for an amendment in the laws governing the African Union to give African Speakers a voice and representation.
Speaker Mutti led a delegation of MPs from different countries under the umbrella body of the Parliamentary Forum on Great Lakes, which is on a fact-finding mission in Uganda to investigate issues related to the ongoing conflict in the DRC.
"It's unfortunate that the majority of women and children continue to be affected by conflicts in the DRC," said Speaker Mutti, highlighting the need for urgent action to address the humanitarian crisis in the region.
The meeting between Speakers Among and Mutti demonstrates the growing desire for African-led solutions to the continent's challenges. As Speaker Among emphasized, "We must support each other in finding solutions to our problems."
