MTN Uganda has donated sewing machines to empower women in lganga with tools and skills needed for self-sufficiency.
According to Allan Njagala the head of marketing Eastern region at MTN, the initiative aims to foster economic independence, enhance their livelihoods, and improve the overall quality of life .
"We know that many youth face real challenges. Job opportunities, especially for those in the informal sector, remain limited but the story doesn’t have to end there. With the right support—skills training, access to digital tools, and financial inclusion—we can change this reality. That’s why, in 2023, as MTN Uganda marked 25 years of serving this country; we launched the MTN Changemakers Initiative. Our goal was simple: to identify and support organizations and individuals who are making a real difference in their communities," Njagala said.
"We have committed shs500 million to 25 high-impact projects countrywide, all focused on key areas like education, health, economic empowerment, and environmental conservation. The initiative is making a real impact by training young women in sewing, embroidery, and the production of essential items like reusable sanitary pads, clothing, and home accessories. It’s not just about learning a craft—it’s about giving people the ability to create sustainable businesses, increase their incomes, and even employ others in their communities."
Jane Namara, the director Hands of Hope one of the beneficiaries in the program appreciated MTN for the support saying it will boost their productivity and youth empowerment.
The area DPC SSP Patrick Byarunga asked the youth to embrace the digital error
“To the young women benefiting from this project this is your moment. The opportunities before you can change your future, but success will come from your passion, creativity, and commitment. Use these resources well, support each other, and embrace the digital tools that will help you grow."
The CEO MTN Sylvia Mulinge in a speech read by Allan Njagala, Mulinge said that, as MTN Uganda, they are committed to ensuring that everyone benefits from the opportunities of a modern, connected life.
