UPPA, CSBAG partner to train journalists on budget reporting

The Uganda Parliamentary Press Association (UPPA) has launched a collaboration with the Civil Society Budget Advocacy Group (CSBAG) to equip journalists with the skills to simplify complex budget information for public understanding.

UPPA President Samuel Ibanda Mugabi said the initiative, which commenced on Thursday, aims to strengthen the capacity of parliamentary reporters to effectively cover budget and public finance management issues.

"This training will not only improve budget reporting but also amplify policy propositions on the national budget," Ibanda stated.

CSBAG's Executive Director, Julius Mukunda, who facilitated the initial session, expressed appreciation for the partnership, emphasising the importance of media in enhancing budget literacy.

“We look forward to more engagements with journalists to ensure that budget issues are well understood and communicated to the public,” Mukunda said.

The collaboration seeks to bridge the gap between technical budget details and accessible public information, empowering journalists to provide more in-depth financial analysis in their reporting.
