Members of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) have announced plans to demonstrate at the Kenyan High Commission in Kampala next week, protesting what they call unfair media treatment of Chief of Defence Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba.

First Son Muhoozi is the chairman of the PLU, a so-called civic organisation created within the ambits of his father's ruling National Resistance Movement party.

The PLU threats come on the back of heightened protests in Kenya over the continued detention of Dr Kizza Besigye, who was in November abducted from Nairobi with the full knowledge of the Kenyan government.

For its Friday, February 28 edition, Kenya's The Standard newspaper led with a screaming headline: "Four-Star Brat", with a splash of pictures of Gen Muhoozi in full military fatigues.

The newspaper's front page was dedicated to snippets of Muhoozi's bio and his controversial posts on social media platform X.

The bold coverage, with The Nairobian digging into the Besigye-Byanyimq-Museveni "love triangle," riled Muhoozi supporters with the Kasambya County MP Daudi Kabanda declaring a protest for Wednesday next week.

"PLU is going to hold an energetic demonstration at the Kenyan High Commission next week on Wednesday," Mr Kabanda, the general secretary of the loose group PLU, said.

"They burnt our High Commission last year and we did not respond, now one of their newspapers has insulted our PLU CHAIRMAN, we will respond with full force!"

On Friday morning, Gen Muhoozi posted a cryptic message on his X account with a simple message, "Uganda House in Nairobi, burning last year".

The message, accompanied by a photo of the Ugandan mission bathed in a blaze, spoke louder than the unusually measured words from Muhoozi, who has in the past caused a diplomatic stir by threatening to capture Nairobi in two weeks.

The building was torched during the Gen-Z protests in Kenya last year.

Youth and Children's Affairs minister Balaam Barugahara, who appears programmed to respond to ever post by Gen Muhoozi in the most flattering of words, was handy to take on the cryptic message.

"We should not tolerate any affront to our national sovereignty. Supreme Leader Muhoozi Kainerugaba, we stand firmly behind you and will not idly watch as disrespect escalates to unacceptable levels," the minister said.

Dr Besigye, a four-time presidential candidate and nemesis to President Museveni was charged with treachery and illegal possession of firearms by the military court last year.

However, after the Supreme Court outlawed the military tribunals in January, Besigye - who remains in detention in Luzira Prison, was last week charged in the civilian court, this time with treason and misprision of treason.
