Former Buyende District Police Commander (DPC) Muhammad Kirumira has been shot dead.

Kirumira was coming from a weekend event in company of a woman yet to be identified when they were trailed and shot.

Earlier, Kirumira sent out an audio message to a group of journalists congratulating them upon voting for the news leaders of the Uganda Journalists Association (UJA).

A few minutes later, he posted a picture of himself at the function he was attending with caption; “The almighty is above all of us; I wish every body well.’

Kirumira was in Toyota Corona vehicle, UAJ 228 V.

Meanwhile Kyadondo East legislator Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine has eulogised Kirumira, calling him a “good friend”.

I just got the terrible news of the shooting of my good friend, and outspoken police officer, Muhammad Kirumira and his dear wife. Very sadly, that is the country we are living in. NO ONE IS SAFE. Our country is bleeding. This is very painful.

Uganda Police speaks out

The Uganda Police Force is greatly concerned with the assassination of ASP Muhammad Kirumira at Bulenga near his home at around 9:00pm. He was with a lady residents confirmed to be his wife. She too succumbed to bullet wounds and was pronounced dead on arrival at Rubaga Hospital this evening. He was driving his personal vehicle which is still at the scene of crime at Bulenga. We condemn these heinous criminal acts and promise to hunt down these merciless criminals and bring them to book.
